The EULiST course at Jönköping University in Sweden focused on student-centred teaching
Associate Professor Nina Bartošová from the Institute of Architectural Theory at FA BUT took part in an international course focusing on the needs of today’s students, course design and the role of artificial intelligence in teaching. The course, aimed at academic staff from institutions within the EULiST alliance, was organised by Jönköping University in Sweden.

The course, ‘Future Educator – Today 2: Placing the Student in the Spotlight’, ran from 22 September to 30 October 2026 as a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP). The virtual component, delivered via the Microsoft Teams platform, was complemented by a five-day meeting in Jönköping. Participants explored student-centred teaching, students’ needs, course design and the role of artificial intelligence in education. They also presented their respective institutions within the EULiST alliance. BUT was represented by participants from the Faculty of Architecture, the Central Library and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
The course was prepared and led by Darko Pantelic, a lecturer at Jönköping International Business School. It was based on the premise that a good teacher must themselves be capable of learning effectively. The programme included lectures by lecturers from various faculties and schools at Jönköping University, classroom observations, and teamwork involving eight groups, which designed the concept for an experiential workshop. The final presentations took place at the university’s branch in Gränna.

By stepping back into the role of students, the participants realised that even at university level, one cannot automatically expect students to take something away from lectures. Teaching must be designed with its audience, the course of the lesson and its effectiveness in mind. It is a never-ending process in which teachers share responsibility with students, and mistakes can help to drive teaching forward.
In spring 2027, Jönköping University will organise the
third edition of the course ‘Placing Sustainability at the Heart of Teaching’,
which will focus on more sustainable teaching. Applications can be submitted
until 12 February 2027. Further details are available on the Jönköping
University website.
