Design & City in Dublin concluded the Architecture / Art / Design and the City trilogy

At the turn of October and November 2025, the final module of the international Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) took place in Dublin, following on from the previous parts of Architecture and City in Brno and Art and City in Riga. The Design and City project completed the cooperation of partner universities from the Czech Republic, Latvia and Ireland.

Project objective

The programme brought together students and educators from various disciplines to jointly explore how cultural traditions, rituals and myths are transformed and how they are interpreted today through image, storytelling and creative design. It was based on Irish autumn myths and oral tradition.

Program course

The project consisted of online lectures in October 2025 and an intensive workshop in Dublin (27. 10.–2. 11. 2025). Participants attended lectures by experts from TU Dublin, FA BUT and RTU and visited a number of places associated with Irish culture – National Leprechaun Museum, Glasnevin Cemetery, St. Michan’s Church and National Museum of Ireland – Archaeology.

Under the guidance of artists and educators such as Michael Fortune, Aileen Lambert, Claire Prouvost, Steve Doogan and Ben Readman, students worked on reinterpreting autumn stories and traditions. They used drawing, illustration, narrative strategies and riso printing.

Outputs

The result was a series of original posters that combined contemporary visual thinking with the cultural identity of the three countries. The posters were presented at an exhibition at TU Dublin, accompanied by a joint presentation and discussion.

During the program, students deepened their skills and knowledge in the areas of:

  • analysis of traditions and cultural narratives,
  • interpretation of symbolism in historical and contemporary contexts,
  • interdisciplinary approaches to story-telling,
  • work with images, illustrations and visual communication,
  • international cooperation and teamwork.
Previous module: Architecture & City

In March 2025, the Art and Cities module focused on video mapping took place in Brno. Students worked in five international teams, mastered the work with the MadMapper and Resolume tools and collected visual material in the Brno urban environment. The output was 33 original video mapping installations, publicly projected on the facade of the Faculty of Architecture of BUT.
