Architecture students are looking for ways to modernize municipal libraries
As part of studio work, students from the Faculty of Architecture BUT are looking for ways to modernize municipal libraries and adapt them to new needs. Some of the innovative designs have already found their application and the project is now focusing on other objects. The results of the work so far are available on the (re)VISION of libraries in the 21st century website.
Since 2019, students from the second to fourth years have been creating concept designs, including three-dimensional models, for selected municipal libraries, which they will visit in person beforehand. According to Jan Kratochvíl, this is an ideal exercise during which students will learn all the necessary skills and become co-actors in the transformation of the traditional space of libraries into their new, innovative form.
The proposals have already found their application in the library in Stošíkovice na Louka in Znojmo. Their authors are Mikuláš Nalepa, Natálie Polesová and Jana Vojtěšku Skálová, who were able to transform the originally unsightly and small room into an attractive community room for all generations of readers. Now the students in the studio are focusing on the library in the town of Mokrá-Horáková.
