The Urban Design Award competition is announced annually by the FA CTU in Prague with the main partner the Association for Urbanism and Spatial Planning of the Czech Republic. The competition is open to all full-time students of the co-organizing universities (with the exception of the diploma project) from the Visegrad Four countries. The competition proposals are evaluated by an international jury mainly composed of architects and urban planning experts working outside the academic environment. Competition works are thus confronted with practice in the field of urban planning and spatial planning. The partners of the competition are the national associations of urban planners (AUUP ČR, MUT, TUP, ZUUPS).

The competition is intended for all students who created a studio semester in the given academic year work registered as an urban project. Students enter their project themselves into the competition. Master's diploma projects cannot be submitted to the competition. The organizers decided to call the competition international due to the fact that the range of organizing schools is expanding and other foreign faculties are being added.
