UIA - Vladimír Šlapeta won the Jean Tschumi award for architectural writing and criticism!
This February, the Council of the Community of
Architects nominated four architects for awards given by the International
Union of Architects /UIA/. One of them was Prof. Ing. architect Vladimír
Šlapeta, who was nominated by the Council of the Community for the Jean Tschumi
Award for architectural writing and criticism.
Ing. Arch. Vladimír Šlapeta is currently considered one of the leading historians of architecture. He is also recognized for his extraordinary contribution as a teacher, subsequently dean of the Faculty of Architecture at CTU in Prague and BUT in Brno, for publishing activities, organizing exhibitions, etc. He was also vice-rector of CTU in Prague, from which he graduated. During normalization, he could not publish under his own name, but his publications were very popular abroad. It was only after the revolution that his name became recognized in our country as well.
The Danish architect Anne Beim also received the Jean Tschumi Award.
Oleg Haman, the president of the Council of the Community of Architects, commented on the award: "I am very pleased that we managed to turn one of the four submitted nominations into awards of the International Union of Architects. The Council of the Community of Architects selected and nominated excellent architects who operate on an international scale. All four nominees would deserve the award, but we know that it is chosen from nominations sent in from all over the world, so the competition is really high. I am even more pleased that the award was won by Prof. Ing. Arch. Vladimír Šlapeta, to whom I cordially congratulate .”
The prize has been awarded by the International Union of Architects UIA since 1967 for outstanding contribution to architectural criticism, research and education as a memorial to the first president of the UIA, Jean Tschumi, once every 3 years. The announcement of this year's edition will take place at the world congress in Copenhagen, which will take place at the beginning of July.
