The art video installation O_KRAJ_JINĚ presents Alena Dvořáková's diploma thesis, which focused on the western edge of Olomouc, its current vicissitudes, but also its enormous potential here hidden in the form of a recreational suburban landscape. The opening of the exhibition will take place on Tuesday, November 22 at 6 p.m. in the XY Gallery / Na Cucky Theater at Dolní náměstí 42 in Olomouc and will last until November 28, 2022

< span style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The western edge of Olomouc is today the embodiment of the wild growth of selfish building interests in the spirit of 1990s capitalism. At the same time, this is a very valuable area with the potential to draw the western landscape into the most populated part of the city. Repetitive models of construction, regardless of the context or the value of the place, can cause not only a loss of identity and meaning, but in this particular case can lead to extinction.

What does the western edge of the city mean to you and how will you deal with it?

The video installation represents creation from the process and the O_KRAJ_JINĚ project itself, which was created as a diploma thesis at the Faculty of Architecture in Brno. It maps the view of the author as a visitor from outside Olomouc to the western edge of the city, which despite its fragmentation, disorganization and lack of vision offers many qualities. The polemic about Okrajina, which stands in opposition to the current trend of non-conceptual construction, especially of family houses and the spatial plan.

Alena Dvořáková's diploma thesis together with other projects of students of the Faculty of Architecture of BUT in Brno can also be viewed in Molitorov library as part of the exhibition O NA SEDMOU until 13/1/2023. The installation in the XY Gallery presents the work from the perspective of current events with all its problems and contradictions that are happening in the area (even under the heading of the valid spatial plan) in order to stimulate public debate and interest in these extremities.
