Chapel - when the studio does not remain on paper
Students of the Faculty of Architecture BUT in the studio under the guidance of Barbora Ponešová, Kristýny Smržové and Jan Foretníka focused on the theme of the chapel in the city
space. From the perspective of the 21st century, instead of the landscape, they planted it directly in the city,
moreover, with the aim of opening this architecture to passers-by. The result is metallic
installation with white sails, which can be seen on the corner of Poříčí and Křížová streets
in the area of ??the front garden of the FA BUT in Brno. "The fact that it would have a chapel played into the cards
serve only temporary site-specific installation purposes. That's why we decided
to use tarpaulin constructions, the individual parts of which could be used if possible
damage, whether by natural elements or man, to be replaced," they explained
female students in the thesis annotation.
The principle of creation of this type is the examination of the specified locality, creating your own thought process, creating a concept, design, implementation documentation and subsequent realization of the work created by students. The currency of this of the process are additional experiences and principles that students acquire in the process the creation of the work itself, from finding suppliers and materials to the actual implementation – final workshop. The objects that are created in this way do not remain at the academy ground, but they are in direct contact with the public, so students can watch not only the response to my work, but also the influence of the surrounding environment (aging of the material etc.)
"Specifically in this project we explored the possibilities of location
pilgrimage chapel to the urban structure. We understand the classic concept of this type of chapel
as architecture set in a landscape that is often the goal of spiritual journeys and
pilgrimage. We decided to take the concept of the chapel from the perspective of individuals of the 21st century,
which is surrounded by a city instead of a landscape," adds architect Kristýna Smržová.
